Your main decision is whether to go plugged into an outlet to charge the gate openers batteries or to connect a solar panel to charge the batteries. Either way the all the gate openers still function the same way, off a battery (with the exception of the GP commercial units). If you are over 1000' for an outlet the choice is simple, solar; if you are under you need to weight the options between cost of wire and time running it vs. cost of the solar panel(s) and the amount of sun in your part of the world.
