DIYGateOpeners.com has a unique system for developing a package that will be right
for your property. Instead of dictating to you, our customer, a few accessories
that we feel fit some needs by being paired up and giving you a discount on them;
we allow you to make an informed decision and create your own package. As you review
our accessory pages you will learn the "What" (what the product does) and the "Why"
(why you may need it) of each product and then as you add products to your shopping
order the savings grow. Each item has built in discounts when paired with other items,
so your package will continue to improve financially as you find the correct products
that actually meet your needs.
Your main decision is whether to go plugged into an outlet to charge the gate openers batteries or to connect a solar panel to charge the batteries. Either way the all the gate openers still function the same way, off a battery (with the exception of the GP commercial units). If you are over 1000' for an outlet the choice is simple, solar; if you are under you need to weight the options between cost of wire and time running it vs. cost of the solar panel(s) and the amount of sun in your part of the world. Also on this page you will find all the products needed to keep your gate opener powered and running.
WHAT: 5 Watt Solar Panel for solar powered systems WHY: Provides an alternative to traditional power sources, making it suitable for remote locations, money saving options, and energy saving options
WHAT: 10 Watt Solar Panel for solar powered systems WHY: Provides an alternative to traditional power sources, making it suitable for remote locations, money saving options, and energy saving options
WHAT: 20 Watt Solar Panel for solar powered systems WHY: Provides an alternative to traditional power sources, making it suitable for remote locations, money saving options, and energy saving options
WHAT: This is a device that goes on the side of the battery(ies) and is powered through the transformer to keep the battery warm. WHY: Cold weather lessens the output of batteries, which can impact gate operator functioning.
WHAT: Extended range Secondary receiver for remote devices WHY: The extended range receiver is ideal for long distance operation of the gate (such as with a long driveway), or areas with poor radio reception. Can increase range to 1500' in the best conditions.
WHAT: Universal remote with 1-3 button option WHY: The Universal remote is compatible with many electric devices such as garage door openers, gate openers, etc. The multi-button options allow the user to control several devices with one remote
WHAT: 5, 10, or 20 Watt Solar Panel for solar powered systems WHY: Provides an alternative to traditional power sources, making it suitable for remote locations, money saving options, and energy saving options
WHAT: This is a surge protector that goes between the transformer and the outlet. WHY: It helps to prevent surges from the electric circuitry of the house from blowing the transformer and the control board of the gate opener.
WHAT: This is a surge suppressor that interrupts surges right before they reach the control board. WHY: This helps to protect against incoming surges from transient voltages during storms and from other surges. Any line that runs underground to the control board could be a source for transient voltage and could be protected by this protector before it reaches the board.
WHAT: This is low voltage, direct burial wire. WHY: This would be used to connect the transformer to the control board to keep the batteries charged on the gate opener. It can also be used to wire in accessories.
