It prevents false activations from cars on adjacent roads or from non-metallic objects—only a vehicle entering the driveway and passing both sensors will trigger the gate to open.
Both sensors are wired directly to the gate opener for activation. The buried magnetic sensor works on electromagnetism: when a mass of metal passes over it at speeds of at least 5 MPH, the electromagnetic field is disturbed, and the gate is triggered to open. Because the sensor is installed parallel to the driveway, there is no need for saw cutting or running wires beneath the surface.
The photo eye is placed on the primary side of the driveway (the side with the control box). Simply run wire to the photo eye and mount it on a small post. Then install the reflector up to 18 feet away on the opposite side of the driveway to reflect the beam back to the eye.
